Thin, Zero, and Cloud PC Client Offerings Combined with Integrated Management, Desktop Virtualization and Cloud Software Delivering the Most Complete and Secure Unified Communications Platform for True Cloud Computing
Mobile Cloud Business Unit to Focus on Management, Desktop Virtualization and Cloud Software on Next Generation Mobile Platforms
Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, today announced an expanded strategy blending its leadership in thin and zero client computing, desktop virtualization, unified communications, and mobile access to virtual environments for true cloud computing - on any computing platform; desktops, laptops and the next generation mobile devices. Wyse, along with key partners including Citrix, IBM, Microsoft, VMware, and others, along with a channel ecosystem of more than 3,000 resellers, are combining to deploy today's leading technology solutions. The products and benefits of this strategy will be demonstrated at VMworld 2010 at Booth #521.
Wyse cloud client computing (W3C) sets out to provide a broader set of options for government, business, and education to enhance the benefits they gain from cloud computing and virtualization. Wyse is leveraging its deep expertise in client hardware, with 20 million devices sold, along with its demonstrated success in developing software solutions for managing, accelerating, and optimizing virtual and cloud environments.
An estimated 200 million people interact with Wyse products each day. This strategy was developed in response to analyst forecasts of up to a five-fold increase in demand for Wyse products in just the next three years. Wyse W3C is based on this domain expertise, and partnerships to provide solutions based on not one, but five virtualization models. Wyse emphasizes delivering a solution portfolio that helps customers achieve higher security, lower TCO, expanded energy savings, while also bringing greater mobility and agility in their IT environment.
The strategy includes:
- Support for five models of virtualization/cloud computing, enabling
customers to decide where applications execute, be it in a private,
public, or hybrid cloud, or the endpoint itself. These models are:
- Session virtualization, including Citrix XenApp and Microsoft RDS
- VDI, Including Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft VDI Suites, and VMware View
- Cloud PC, including Citrix Provisioning Server and Wyse WSM
- Web apps, using a light browser client, and
- PC-sharing, including Microsoft MultiPoint Server 2010
- Software solutions organized in three categories: management, virtualization, and cloud software, reducing the TCO of the solution, while enhancing user experience over LANs, WANs, Wi-Fi and cellular data connections.
- An expanded firmware offering including standards Windows and Linux, with exclusive Wyse-developed firmware technologies Wyse ThinOS™ and next-generation zero client engine Wyse Zero™, offering devices with instant-on, self-management, and malware immunity.
- Wyse's industry leading line of cloud clients, including thin clients, zero clients, and cloud PCs in stand-alone and mobile formats.
"Wyse has always prided itself on its operational excellence, its industry-leading innovation and IP assets, and well-known strong customer relationships. It was from those customers that we have learned there is no 'one size fits all' virtualization or cloud solution," according to Tarkan Maner, President and CEO at Wyse. "Cloud client computing blends the broad array of thin and zero client computing along with unified communications, and desktop virtualization for true cloud computing implementations - in a private, public, hybrid or government cloud - on any computing platform; desktops, laptops, or next generation mobile devices. It is this vision and focus that truly sets Wyse apart."
"Our market research shows Wyse as the leading shipper of thin clients in the US market in the first half of 2010, with over 38 percent market share," said Bob O'Donnell, Vice President at IDC. "Through a combination of their own hardware and software solutions, and partnerships with every major virtualization and cloud computing solution provider, Wyse has created a top market position."
In a separate announcement and as part of an expanding mobile strategy, Wyse announced the formation of its Mobile Cloud Business Unit (MCBU), a distinct unit within the company designed to research, develop, and market products and services that serve the mobile users on next generation mobile devices. MCBU will be led by Daniel Barreto, GM, Mobile Cloud Business Unit at Wyse.
This week, Wyse MCBU introduces version 2.0 of Wyse PocketCloud™ for iOS-based products, enabling anyone to securely access a PC, remote desktop or virtual environment from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Wyse PocketCloud has been downloaded over 110,000 times and is a top 10 selling app for business in the iTunes App Store. Wyse MCBU also released Version 1.0 of Wyse PocketCloud for Android-based phones and tablets. Both products were developed in Wyse's mobile labs, and released to critical acclaim.
"As the progress of virtualization has helped make cloud computing possible, the opportunities for the mobile user are nearly limitless," according to Barreto. "Just as we have with Wyse PocketCloud, we will continue to deliver innovative solutions that will delight the modern-day mobile professionals."
