Hyperion and Sun to Deliver 100 Percent Solaris OS-Based Business Performance Management Solutions for SPARC and AMD Opteron Processor-Based Systems

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hyperion and Sun Microsystems, Inc. , today announced a multi-year global agreement to develop and market business performance management solutions running on Sun's Solaris(TM) Operating System (OS). The joint solutions will address customers' need for greater business insight across their organizations.

Companies are challenged by a highly competitive business climate and new compliance regulations -- including the Sarbanes-Oxley act in the United States and International Financial Reporting Standards in Europe -- that demand both greater performance and higher levels of control and transparency. Hyperion and Sun integrated solutions will provide the scalability and performance businesses need for fast, cost-effective enterprise-wide Business Performance Management deployments that will enable them to quickly collect and analyze their financial and non-financial data to gain insight and improve business performance.

"We are a global organization and it is crucial to our business to maintain 24x7 availability. Using Hyperion's software on Sun's platform, we get the stability, service and high availability that Sun provides while obtaining insight into our IT spending at the most granular level," Janis Hogue, CIO and senior vice president of Information Technology for Hudson Advisors. "With the information provided by Hyperion's software, the entire Global IT team feels a greater accountability for expenditures, and is better aligned with goals that are key to the company's success."

Under the terms of the agreement, Sun and Hyperion will market and co-sell integrated solutions across the financial, telecommunications and retail industries and lines of businesses such as sales, marketing, and human resources. The Hyperion and Sun offering builds on the enterprise-class, virtually unparalleled security and compelling price of the industry's #1 UNIX(R) OS, Solaris. This includes the Solaris platform on Opteron and SPARC(R) processor-based systems, and spanning the Java(TM) Enterprise System, and the Java Desktop System.

"Sun provides a rock-solid platform for deploying business intelligence solutions from low-cost Opteron systems to the largest enterprise-capable SPARC processor-based systems," said Stephen Borcich, vice president, Market and Industry Development at Sun. "By deepening our joint technology development and investment, Sun and Hyperion are further enabling customers to run the familiar, safe and reliable Solaris OS to avoid interruption in their environments, while leveraging a higher ROI."

"Hyperion and Sun have been working together to help our customers meet their business goals by driving the adoption of Business Performance Management solutions as enterprise standards," said Bill Gaylord, vice president, Market Development for Hyperion. "Our joint solutions will allow customers to easily and cost-effectively deploy Business Performance Management solutions that can scale to meet the current and future needs across their global enterprise."
