NIMES (AFX) - A court here has called a halt to restructuring measures for the Perrier factory at Vergeze and criticised Nestle Waters for failing to adequately consult with staff.
The restructuring was part of a broader move starting this year to create five divisions within the Nestle Waters group at production sites Est, Vergeze and Quezac, as well as two other units for marketing and distribution.
Nestle Waters, a unit of Nestle AG, was unavailable for comment.
A complaint against the company was brought by the CGT union, which accused it of forcing through its proposed measures at a consultation meeting in December last year.
The court found that "several essential questions concerning the social or economic consequences were not subject to precise and written clarification," during this consultation, in violation of French law.
The judge ruled that the consultation will have to be carried out again, with the restructuring measures for the Vergeze plant suspended until its completion.
