BRUSSELS (AFX) - The European Commission said it has cleared Arcelor Profil Luxembourg and Societe Nationale de Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois' (SNCFL) joint acquisition of new venture CFL Cargo.
The commission said the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area.
Arcelor Profil belongs to the Arcelor group and specialises in long carbon steel products.
SNCFL is Luxembourg's national railway operator.
CFL Cargo would take over all railway transport of goods currently provided by Luxembourg's EuroLuxCargo, Germany's Neg Uetersen and Denmark's Dansk Jernbane Aps (Denmark), all units of SNCFL, as well as the internal transport managed by Arcelor Profil and Arcelor Rodange.
Container transport would not be handled by CFL Cargo, although the group could offer traction services as a sub-contractor to container companies. simon.zekaria@afxnews.com sz/abr COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2006.
