HONG KONG (XFN-ASIA) - A kestrel found dead in a densely populated part of Hong Kong died of the H5N1 bird flu virus, test results revealed by government researchers have shown.
The bird was discovered two weeks ago, the eighth dead bird found in Hong Kong this year to have been infected with the virus.
Biologists said they believe local species of wild birds found dead with the virus could have picked it up from contact with infected flocks in mainland China, where it is believed the strain first mutated into a form deadly to humans.
