ZAGREB (AFX) - Croatian authorities have suspended production at a Heineken factory amid fears that leaked carbon dioxide emissions killed a dog and hospitalised a man, reported Hina news agency.
The ecology ministry halted output at Karlovacka Pivovara brewery to allow for the installation of a CO2 purification system after questioning five managers, including the director, the report said.
A man and his dog were last month overcome by powerful gases while walking beside a stream near the plant in Karlovac, central Croatia. The dog died and the man was admitted to hospital where he is still in a coma.
The stream had been linked to the factory's water-treatment network set up at the end of 2006, said a lawyer.
Heineken took control of the factory on 2003. newsdesk@afxnews.com afp/cml COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2007. All rights reserved.
