FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Freenet AG is considering selling its DSL unit to a mobile network operator, chief executive Eckhard Spoerr told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in an interview.
'If a mobile network operator had an interest in buying Freenet, because it thinks our strategy of mobile internet is good, it could take over our internet business,' Spoerr said.
Spoerr declined to comment on potential bidders, but said that mobile network operators play an important role in the consolidation of the German telecommunications market.
Spoerr said the sale process for Freenet -- which was created just a few months ago from the merger of Mobilcom AG and the old Freenet AG -- will be concluded by the end of this year. christoph.steitz@thomson.com cs1/mog/lce COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2007.
