Marci Yamaguchi Hughes Joins GamePro as Executive Vice President/GM
A 14 year veteran in the video games information space, Marci Yamaguchi Hughes, has been appointed executive vice president and general manager of GamePro Media, publisher of GamePro Magazine and Gamepro.com, effective immediately.
Yamaguchi Hughes most recently served as senior vice president of sales for the game group at Ziff Davis Media, which included 1UP.com, FileFront.com, and EGM Magazine (Electronic Gaming Monthly), until the online business was sold to Hearst Interactive last month. Yamaguchi Hughes played an integral role in the launch of 1UP.com in 2003. She oversaw the first-ever successful integration of print and online sales teams in the marketplace in 2005, leading to continuous growth in online advertising revenue.
“I am honored and thrilled to join the GamePro family,” said Yamaguchi Hughes. “GamePro has long stood as a leading brand in videogamers’ minds. I am excited for the opportunity to help expand our offerings to video game and entertainment enthusiasts, while continuing to deliver great advertising opportunities for our customers.”
GamePro Media, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this spring, will also be publishing and managing ad sales for the Show Daily at E3 June 2-4. Another IDG company, IDG World Expo, is the show manager for E3.
Combined with its quarterly newsstand specials and several new initiatives launching later this year, GamePro Media is poised for continued growth in 2009 and beyond. “Marci is the ideal executive to lead GamePro Media,” said Bob Carrigan, CEO, IDG Communications. “Her background in both print and online, as well as her tenured history in the game industry, will allow us to strengthen our leadership position as we continue to grow our product portfolio in both areas.”
Yamaguchi Hughes began her career at Ziff Davis in 1989 at MacUser and PC Week. She currently serves on the Board of Governors of MI6, the Association of Electronic Interactive Marketers, and organizer of the MI6 conference.
