First Production Units Have Been Deployed in Washington and Idaho
Northwest Signal Supply, Inc. today announced the immediate availability of its new M1 Advanced Transportation Controller (ATC). Leveraging a robust and easy-to-see display and built to withstand cold, heat, wind, dust, vibration, sunlight and even g-forces, the M1 provides the ideal platform for the company’s state-of-the-art traffic controller software. The first production units were shipped to customers in Washington and Idaho in July and are expected to be deployed as early as this month.
The M1 offers all of the features and functions found in Northwest Signal’s Voyage traffic controller software. These include built-in adaptive control, programmable logic for user-created solutions and complete master control capabilities. And, because it was designed specifically to run Northwest Signal controller software, its interface and menu system make the M1 extremely easy to use.
“Today’s traffic engineers are faced with increasingly complex challenges that have surpassed the capabilities of yesterday’s traffic control technology,” said Jon Meusch, president of Northwest Signal. “The M1 offers engineers an unparalleled level of power and sophistication and provides them with the necessary tools to develop smart traffic signal systems and solutions.”
“As a hands-on kind of guy, I do a lot of tweaking, testing and changing to make sure every intersection we design is as efficient and effective as possible,” said Bill Quitta, traffic systems analyst for the city of Yakima, Washington. “The flexibility, user interface and features offered in the M1 are well-suited to the way I work and we’re looking forward to putting it through its paces on our next project, which promises to be a true challenge.”
About the M1 ATC
The M1 was built to withstand the elements. Its robust electronic circuitry is jacketed in a thick aluminum shell that protects the unit and helps to manage heat. It features a robust, wide temperature display that is easy to read in a variety of lighting condition and viewing angles.
Key features include:
• Comprehensive real-time dynamic displays and built-in context sensitive help
• The industry’s fastest advanced offset seeking options
• More than 180 individual time clock functions
• Built-in adaptive “Dynamic Phase Length” and “Platoon Progression” algorithms
• Flashing yellow left turn arrow logic
• 8 transit priority inputs
• Ethernet and IP support
• Customizable preempt sequences assignable for emergency vehicles, trains or light rail
Northwest Signal also offers a software program called NWSCentral, which enables the M1 to be configured, managed and monitored via Windows-compatible PCs, laptops or PDAs. One NWSCentral installation can handle 250 systems of 50 controllers each and facilitates direct or remote communications with the M1 or any 2070 and compatible ATC traffic controllers running Northwest Signal’s Voyage traffic controller software.
