LONDON, Feb 8 (Reuters) - A Baltic States fund managed by Danske Bank's investment arm was the top performer among UK-registered equities
funds in January, data from fund research firm Lipper showed on Monday.
Danske Invest Baltic, managed by Kari Salonen, returned 22.98 percent over the month, and beat off strong competition from a host of Turkey-focused funds. Salonen's returns profited from a bumper month for the Tallinn stock exchange and compared to an average 3.01 percent loss for equities funds tracked by Lipper.
The Luxembourg-domiciled fund is up 55.56 percent over the past 12 months. By comparison, UK-registered equities funds on average have posted a 38.70 percent gain.
The worst performing fund in the month was Dalton's Melchior Asian Opportunities fund, down 11.44 percent. However, it has delivered 12 month returns of more than 57 percent.
Following are tables of the best and worst performers in January among equities funds listed in the Lipper Global indexes and registered for sale in Britain. Performance is shown in the fund's local currency and may reflect declared or estimated dividends.
The tables use the latest available data and strip out smaller players, as well as some funds that price less regularly:
