EDF Energies Nouvelles: Solar Energy Review at 30 June 2010

Given the number and size of solar projects, EDF Energies Nouvelles does not systematically announce the commissioning of each new solar facility, but publishes regular reviews of its solar energy activities, such as this one.

• Further strong growth in installed capacity:
  142.2 MWp compared with 27.6 MWp one year earlier
• 376.3 MWp gross in service or under construction

EDF Energies Nouvelles (Paris:EEN)continues to expand at a brisk pace in the solar photovoltaic segment, both in Europe and North America. At 30 June 2010, it had gross installed capacity of 142.2 MWp (120 MWp net), representing an increase of 76% by comparison with 31 December 2009.

In addition, the Group, which develops both solar farms and roof-based projects, had 234.1 MWp in gross capacity under construction (for its own account and for third parties) at 30 June 2010.

In sum, capacity in service or under construction stood at 376.3 MWp gross/ 258.2 MWp net at 30 June 2010, in line with the Group's objective of achieving 500 MWp in net installed capacity by year-end 2012.

PROJECTS COMMISSIONED

During the first half of 2010, EDF Energies Nouvelles commissioned facilities representing a total of 68.4 MWp in capacity in France, Spain and Italy, including 61.3 MWp for its own account and 7.1 MWp for third parties.

In France, the first two tranches of the ground-based Gabardan (Landes) power plant with 24 MWp in total capacity were commissioned, together with a 2 MWp tranche fitted on trackers, enabling the panels to track the path of the sun. Furthermore, as part of its DSSA business, the Group sold 7.1 MWp in roof-based projects (on industrial, commercial and agricultural buildings).

In Spain, three power plants were commissioned, namely the Casatejada (11.4 MWp) and Valdecaballeros (11.4 MWp) facilities in the Estremadura region of south-western Spain, and the La Rambla unit (5.7 MWp) in Andalusia.

In Italy, six facilities (solar farms or large roof arrays) with capacity of between 0.3 MWp and 1.8 MWp were commissioned during the first half, representing a total of 5.4 MWp in capacity.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

EDF Energies Nouvelles launched the construction of solar projects with 162.3 MWp in capacity during the first half of the year. All in all, the Group had 234.1 MWp in gross capacity (138.2 MWp net) under construction at 30 June 2010 for its own account and for third parties. These projects are chiefly located in France, Italy and Canada.

In France, a total of 110.4 MWp in capacity is under construction. The Group has notably started up the construction of the Saint-Symphorien (24 MWp) and Bouloc (10.2 MWp) facilities in south-western France and the Puyloubier (6.5 MWp) facility in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. EDF Energies Nouvelles is also continuing to build the Gabardan facility for its own account and third parties, and it may ultimately have up to 76 MWp in capacity. In addition, 32 MWp in capacity on large roof arrays and farm buildings was under construction for third parties at June 30, 2010.

In Italy, construction of the ground-based Augusta plant (6.7 MWp) and of several large roof arrays, such as the Marrubiu 1 (4.3 MWp) and Uras 2 (2.9 MWp) projects, commenced during the first six months of the year. Construction of the Loreo (12.6 MWp) and Priolo (13.5 MWp) solar farms also made further progress. All in all, 43 ground-based or large roof array projects with 79.4 MWp in total capacity were under construction at 30 June 2010.

In Canada, the Group started up the construction of three power plants with 35.3 MWp in total capacity during June. These plants, which are due to be commissioned in late 2010, are all located in Ontario.
