Alstom awarded steam equipment contract for Wildcat Point combined-cycle power plant in Maryland

Finanznachrichten News

WASHINGTON, March 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Alstom has signed a contract worth close to 75 million ($100 million) to supply a steam tail package for Old Dominion Electric Cooperative's (ODEC[1]) Wildcat Point Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) in Cecil County, Maryland. It will generate approximately 1,000 megawatts (MW), enough to power 390,000 homes. The plant is scheduled for commissioning in mid-2017.

Alstom's Steam Tail offering, combines two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) and one steam turbine generator (STG) into one unique package for equipment performance optimization, higher efficiency, lower emissions, reduced costs and shorter delivery times. The steam tail will provide Wildcat Point with all of its steam function needs. It is designed to work with the gas components at the plant which will become one of the cleanest natural gas facilities in the state of Maryland.

"By bundling these two major components together Alstom is able to provide significant performance benefits in terms of energy output over the individual component approach," said Steve Meszaros, Senior Vice President Gas Business at Alstom. "We are excited to implement this technology at Wildcat Point and looking forward to working with ODEC to ensure the success of this project."

The Wildcat Point facility will be ODEC's first combined-cycle power plant and the largest in terms of power output in their fleet. This new plant is a key part of ODEC's efforts to produce clean, affordable energy with natural gas. It is one of several combined cycle plants being commissioned in the Mid-Atlantic region over the next few years and will deliver power to the PJM Regional Transmission Organization (RTO).

[1] ODEC is a non-profit provider of wholesale electricity to 11 member cooperatives serving 1.2 million members in Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware.
