Finanznachrichten News

NEW YORK, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- BP America, in partnership with BP independent owners and operators, recently awarded $112,000 in scholarships to 80 recent high school graduates and returning college students who live in or near New York. This year, the program was expanded to include students in Northern New Jersey.

A diverse group of students was selected to receive BP Community Scholarships based on personal essays, academic performance, extracurricular activities, work experience, individual goals and demonstrated financial need.

BP employees, dealers and jobbers in metropolitan New York began the community scholarship program in 1988 as a way to invest in the success of youth in the neighborhoods where they operate businesses. Now in its 17th year, the BP Community Scholarship Program has provided more than $2 million for 1,200 scholarships to promising area students who reside in and near metropolitan New York. Scholarship applications were offered to students online and at area BP stations.

The scholarship awards ceremony was held Tuesday at Fordham Law School. The community scholarship program expanded this year to include dealers and students from Northern New Jersey. The program operates in three major BP markets: New York, Washington, DC and Chicago. Since 1987, the program has provided more than $4 million for nearly 3,000 scholarships in these three markets.

BP America views education as one of its key areas of focus for community investment, with most of this investment directed to math, science, environmental and energy education.
