
MIDLAND, Mich., July 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Dow Chemical Company announced today the election of Ruth G. Shaw to the Board of Directors, effective immediately. Dr. Shaw, president and chief executive officer of Duke Power Company, will serve on the Compensation and Public Interest Committees of Dow's Board.
With over 15 years at Duke Power Company, a business unit of Duke Energy, Shaw brings to Dow a fresh perspective on the business of energy. She is a member of the boards of directors of Wachovia Corp., one of the nation's largest financial services companies, as well as the boards of Edison Electric Institute, the Nuclear Energy Institute and the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Shaw served as Duke Energy's executive vice president and chief administrative officer, and as president of The Duke Energy Foundation. Shaw joined Duke Power in September 1992 as vice president of corporate communications, and was named senior vice president of corporate resources in 1994. From 1986 to 1992, Shaw served as president of Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, and was previously president of El Centro College in Dallas, Texas. Shaw received her Bachelor of Arts (magna cum laude) and Master of Arts degrees in English from East Carolina University. She received her Ph.D. in higher educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a University Fellow.
