BRUSSELS (AFX) - Pharmaceuticals and chemicals combine Solvay SA said it is planning a new plant in Thailand to produce epichlorohydrin, a chemical building block used in the production of plastics.
The announcement was made as Solvay launched a similar plant today in Tavaux, France.
Solvay said the Thailand operation will produce 100 kilotons of the chemical starting mid-2009 and added the investment is a response 'to rapidly growing demand for epichlorohydrin, in particular in Asia'.
The French site has a capacity of 10kt, which Solvay said is 'easily expandable in response to market demand'.
'We believe that Epicerol will make a substantial contribution to the group's sustainable and profitable growth strategy,' said Filipe Constant, managing director of Solvay's electrochemistry division. simon.zekaria@thomson.com sz/cw COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2007.
