Homeland Renewable Energy LLC and Fibrowatt LLC Welcome John O'Neill as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer
Homeland Renewable Energy LLC ("HRE") announced today that John O'Neill has been appointed Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, with responsibility for the company's finance, treasury and accounting operations. As an important member of the HRE leadership team, Mr. O'Neill will assist the company and its principal subsidiary, Fibrowatt LLC, in executing its strategic plan to achieve rapid growth in becoming a leader in renewable energy in North America.
Fibrowatt LLC ("Fibrowatt") develops, builds and operates power plants fueled by poultry litter and is currently commissioning its first plant in the United States - a 55MW facility in Benson, Minnesota. Fibrowatt has a pipeline of new projects under development in poultry-growing states across the United States, including North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
Mr. O'Neill's prior experience includes serving most recently as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Environmental Power Corp., a renewable energy company that specializes in developing biogas facilities, which can cost-effectively and reliably produce clean, renewable gas from agriculture and food industry wastes while simultaneously creating significant quantities of marketable carbon offset credits. Prior to that, he served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance for Constellation/NewEnergy, a leading competitive supplier of electricity, natural gas, and energy-related services to more than 7,000 commercial and industrial customers throughout North America. During his tenure, he streamlined and enhanced the financial, administrative and operational infrastructure to support the company's growing global presence in major energy markets as the company grew from $200M to over $2.5B in annual revenues. As a member of the Credit Committee and the Risk Management Committee, Mr. O'Neill's responsibilities extended to strategic planning decisions for the company as a whole.
Mr. O'Neill's background also includes extensive experience as a consultant to emerging growth businesses. In connection with providing these consulting services, Mr. O'Neill served as Chief Financial Officer for several companies. He directed the financial operations of National Energy Choice, an energy aggregation company where he helped to build the operational infrastructure and developed the business plan as Chief Financial Officer, and later, as a Partner of the firm.
"As a business advisor to and officer of major energy companies over the last 25 years, I have witnessed the impact of the changing global energy markets and the energy industry on the environment. There has never been a more important time than now to focus on this impact and the benefits that the market for alternative and renewable energy can bring to the environment and the energy industry. I am very excited to be joining Homeland Renewable Energy at this important juncture, as the market for alternative and renewable energy sources becomes increasingly important," says Mr. O'Neill.
Mr. O'Neill graduated with highest honors from Bentley College and began his career as an auditor at KPMG Peat Marwick LLP (now KPMG LLP), where he spent more than a decade advising major industrial and energy companies on corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, and restructuring of debts. He is a certified public accountant.
Rupert Fraser, Chief Executive Officer of HRE and Fibrowatt, stated, "We are very pleased that John has agreed to join our team. His skills and experience are an excellent match to our needs, and we look forward to working with him to build a world-leading renewable energy company."
