Witron Integrated Logistics Corp., noted for its competence in designing and realizing highly automated system solutions, announced that it recently sold its 200th fully automated picking device called "Case Order Machine" (COM). "With COM as the core element of Witron's totally integrated and automated warehouse and picking solution referred to as "Order Picking Machinery (OPM), we introduced a new era of case picking. It is COM that enables automatic picking of cases with varied sizes, shapes, volumes and package types without the need for any gripping or suction techniques," explains Karl Hoegen, Chief Operating Officer. The American system provider states OPM is incredibly beneficial for retailers that must supply thousands or unique products to hundreds of stores day after day. OPM reduces operational and transportation costs and provides store-friendly order delivery as well as aisle-friendly sequencing: "Supermarket chains that offer a comprehensive range of dry goods will benefit from this technology, because it enables the automatic picking of thousands of dry good trading units. At one of our OPM installations, the number of trading units picked automatically exceeds 10,000 different SKUs", adds Hoegen. Currently, OPM systems can be found in the US in distribution centers of leading supermarket chains as well as at EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr in Germany and Mercadona in Spain.
