Evolution Solar Corp (OTC:EVSO) welcomes Dr. Michael Stiles to its newly formed Solar Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) to further qualify and commercialize solar technologies and research market opportunities in the solar powered energy industry.
"Dr. Stiles brings decades of experience, research and accomplishments to our Solar Technology Advisory Committee," stated Robert Kaapke, CEO of Evolution Solar. "Dr. Stiles is a remarkable resource and we are privileged to have him on our team."
Dr. Stiles is the Co-Founder and Inventor of R&B Solar and has developed intellectual property and applications for solar electronics, sustainable energy, and renewable energy systems. He has served as: Chief Science Officer for Smart Solar, Inc.; Applied Science Specialist at Aurora Technologies, Ltd.; Chief Science Officer, Sunbear Systems; and Research Physicist and Vice President of Synertech Systems Corporation, Syracuse, New York.
He earned his doctorate degree from Syracuse University in 1985.
"The company accepts persons who can assist the company in pursuing its goals and expectations in forth-coming projects and collaborations," explained Robert Kaapke, CEO of Evolution Solar. "Our industry is experiencing tremendous growth that could out shine the oil boom."
JA Solar Holdings Co. (NASDAQ:JASO) said Thursday that Elmer Hsu will replace Kang Sun as chief operating officer on Aug. 1 and Tempe-based First Solar Inc. (NASDAQ:FSLR) has landed its first U.S. solar-power plant project - a 7.5-kilowatt plant to be built near Blythe, Calif., to serve Southern California Edison by October 2009.
The plant could expand to 21 megawatts, and is the first "thin-film" solar plant in that state. Thin-film solar panels use materials other than traditional silicon to convert light to electricity.
Major utilities like Southern California Edison and PG&E have been signing up for huge solar installations in the hundreds of megawatts. Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) has proposed to install 20 megawatts of solar distributed generation capacity at a cost of $100 million.
California seems to be a leading light in the domestic solar power push, and is also the key reason why companies like First Solar (Nasdaq:FSLR), SunPower (Nasdaq:SPWR), and Trina Solar (NYSE:TSL) have taken a shine to the U.S. market.
