Abilities Expo/Minnesota, the one show dedicated to educating and improving the lives of people with disabilities, senior citizens, their families & caregivers, as well as healthcare and education professionals, opens today and will run through the weekend! The three-day event will take place at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota from Friday, September 12 through Sunday, September 14, 2008.
At 11:00 am, representatives from the Presidential Campaigns for Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain will have a political discussion. United States Congressman Keith Ellison (D) representing Minnesota's Fifth District will be the surrogate for Barack Obama and David Schwartzkopf, Minnesota Chair for the Americans with Disabilities for McCain Coalition will be the surrogate for Senator John McCain. Both parties will address the audience by defining the candidate's disability platform. They will address important issues facing people with disabilities including healthcare, employment, housing, education, and Veterans issues, in addition to overall issues of the economy and the War in Iraq.
Other show highlights include:
- Gary Guller, the first person with one arm to have summitted Mount Everest will be at the show autographing Team Everest DVD's.
- The FIRST EVER Accessible Race Car Sponsored by Accessible Racing will be on display all three days.
- Vazquez Metals will be demonstrating an Accessible Deer Stand for hunting.
- Borders Books of Minnetonka will be setting up a book store.
- Minnesota State Council for Independent Living Centers will be registering people to vote.
- Sports demonstrations by Xtreme Medical, The Courage Center and Power Hockey.
- Legsdontwork.com will be hosting a Golf Chipping Contest.
- The "Intimate Sessions" will be added to the conference program.
- The exhibit floor will showcase the latest products and services to improve the lives of people with disabilities.
- Colours Wheelchairs will be raffling off a $3,000 chair on Kids Day, taking place on Saturday, September 13.
- BLAST will announce the 2008 winners of the Golf Express Golf Cart and the $5,000 Accessible Vacation for two sponsored by Freedom Shores. BLAST will also be raffling off an accessible tent sponsored by EUREKA.
