HR executives and business leaders can learn first-hand how Aetna implemented Strategic Workforce Planning to tackle its future workforce challenges at HR Technology 2008 in Chicago this October 15.
Workforce planning experts from both Aetna, one of the nation's leading health care benefits companies, and Aruspex, foremost provider of strategic workforce planning solutions, will present the online event titled "Why and How of Workforce Planning at Aetna." The session will be held Wednesday, October 15 at 11 am (Central Time).
Presenters include Melissa Cummings, head of Workforce Planning at Aetna, and Stacy Chapman, co-founder of Aruspex.
Aetna puts the people who use their services at the center of everything they do, and lives by a core set of values. Two of those values are anticipating the future and being innovative "” and in 2007 Aetna knew that they would have to draw upon both of these to build more effective strategic workforce plans for the organization. They approached Aruspex to help put together the right tools and techniques for a new approach to workforce planning at Aetna.
The new approach factors internal and external influences on Aetna's workforce, including demography, globalization and business strategies. Critically, the framework doesn't force a "one size fits all" approach; rather, it embraces organizational and employee diversity, and enables Aetna to integrate and incorporate its organizational knowledge, not just HR data.
Aetna uses Aruspex Planner software to support the process, provide insights into the workforce, highlight current and future challenges, explore and develop future scenarios, quantify gaps, and build comprehensive, measurable action plans, to map solutions to future workforce gaps.
Melissa Cummings will discuss how Aetna built a successful, collaborative, and strategic workforce plan. And while technology is crucial for workforce planning, it is not the whole picture: attendees will hear about offline skills and activities as well. Participants also will hear a comprehensive business unit case study from concept to the detailed final plan. This presentation is full of hints, tips and lessons learned.
