Open Air Magazine Winter Issue Available November 7

Finanznachrichten News

MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The winter issue of Open Air Magazine will be available on newsstands Friday, November 7. Published by USA TODAY, the nation's top-selling newspaper, Open Air is an active-lifestyle magazine available four times a year in the newspaper. Open Air has shown increasing momentum and advertiser interest in its first year. This 4th issue produces a 30% increase in ad revenue compared to the fall edition.

Highlights of Open Air's winter issue include the following: -- COVER STORY: SLOW SNOW (Page 16)

The adrenaline rush of downhill skiing is one of winter's greatest highs. But there are many other ways to enjoy the unique pleasures of snow and ice. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and skating are some of the slow snow sports outdoor lovers pursue during the cold months. We look at slow snow experiences in places like Breckinridge, Colo., Lake Placid, NY and Jackson Hole, Wyo.

-- CRUISE FIT (Page 22)

Facing mountains of food and free-flowing bars on a cruise vacation means most people return home fatter, not fitter. Open Air looks at how to stay ship-shape while on a cruise and offers updates on industry efforts to offer healthful dining options. Plus, we hear from several cruise lines on their options for health-conscious travelers.

-- HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE FOR AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE (Page 26)

Get the perfect gift for the athlete, adventurer or outdoor fanatic in your household. The staff at Open Air makes recommendations on digital underwater cameras, gear for Gold-medal swimming, reels and rods to help catch "the big one," video games for the indoor athlete, destination adventures over a South African game reserve and a Costa Rican volcano and a day at a heavy equipment play area.

-- ZIP AWAY (Page 30)

An Open Air writer hooks on to a zip line and tours the treetops with Scream Time Zipline Tours in Boone, N.C. She tells us about her adventure and about the growth in zip line tours coast to coast. A guide to other zip line destinations includes spots in Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Ohio, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Texas.

-- READER PHOTOS (Page 36)

With 60,000 votes cast online you decided that the winner of the Transition Lenses Reader's Pick Contest is Scotty Burns of Clearwater, Fla. His shot of skydivers in the air with the space shuttle Discovery taking off in the distance earned 25% of the total votes. Burns will be awarded a Canon EOS 5D 12.8MP digital camera, provided by Transitions Optical.

Other highlights of the winter issue of Open Air include: how to improve your workout with yoga; how business travelers can stay fit on the road; great places to see wildlife in San Diego; capturing mid-action moments with the NBA's Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics; 2008 Finals MVP), analyzed by Mike Fratello, TNT sports commentator; excerpts from A Hard-Water World by Greg Breining with essays and photos on ice fishing; and a 43-year old stroke survivor from Seattle reveals the challenges of the AMA Start! Heart Walk, a 3-mile charity fundraiser.
