New Firm, Same Winning Team Offers Broad Based, Complex Commercial Litigation Expertise
Reeder, Lu & Green, LLP, a law firm with an expertise in broad based, complex commercial litigation, has opened its doors for business in the Fox Tower in Century City, California. The announcement was made by Christopher Reeder, a former partner at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, LLP. While he has successfully handled an incredibly diverse and impressive area of complex commercial litigation cases including franchise, intellectual property, labor and employment, partnership disputes, sports law, class action, entertainment, and aviation, Reeder’s strategic and aggressive representation in high profile real estate litigation has attracted the bulk of recent media attention, most notably the recent favorable settling of a fraud, racketeering, and breach of contract case against Phoenix, Arizona based Mortgages, Ltd. on behalf of an alleged underfunded real estate developer. Reeder’s litigation strategy resulted in a recent settlement of the case, which was approved by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona. In the settlement, the developer of a massive mixed-use development and sports complex surrounding the new spring training facility for the L.A. Dodgers and Chicago White Sox received a complete release of over $110 million in personal guarantees, an extension of the loan term for up to five years with no payments until maturity, a principle adjustment, an interest rate reduction, subordination for construction, and potential additional funding. The case drew nationwide attention with the suicide of Mortgages, Ltd. Chairman and CEO Scott Coles, followed by a bankruptcy that left thousands of unpaid investors and numerous uncompleted building projects.
Partnering with Reeder at the new firm are longtime colleagues Beverly Lu and Gabriel Green. In addition to the aforementioned partners, the firm has a special counsel, Ronald Reynolds, a high profile litigator with over 28 years of experience. The firm also has hired two associates, Christopher Hendricks, a recent cum laude graduate from the University of San Diego School of Law and former collegiate level All American in Snowboarding, and Jennifer Keh, a 2007 graduate of the UCLA School of Law and member of the law review, who will join the firm in two weeks.
“We have the same winning team of litigation and transactional experts, and we are excited about the challenge of growing our own premiere law practice,” says Reeder. “We will continue to aggressively represent our clients in a broad range of business litigation including real estate, construction, franchise, aviation, entertainment, employment, sports, and class actions as well as assist clients in transactional matters. We have put together an A-team of business litigators with an enviable track record going back to us working together at both Lord Bissell and Sheppard Mullin. New firm, but the same leaders of the team. We also have been able to reduce our overhead, while maintaining first class infrastructure and talent, and thus share that savings with our clients in the form of reduced rates. We are thrilled to build a new firm for the new economy.”
The firm is made up of three partners with very different beginnings. Reeder earned his law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law, a private university in Dayton, Ohio, after serving for five years in the United States Navy. He moved to California in the late 90’s. His first job was at Westwood, California based Kern and Wooley. He then moved over to Kaye Scholer, LLP in Century City, and worked on complex commercial litigation matters. In 2006, he joined Lord Bissell & Brook as a partner. Since July 2007, he was a partner at Sheppard Mullin.
Lu, a graduate of UCLA, earned her law degree after doing undergraduate studies focusing on political science and Asian American Studies. She began her law career at the litigation firm of Hawkins Schnabel Lindahl and Beck (now Lindahl Beck) then moved over in 2003 to Lord Bissell. Like Reeder, Lu has tremendous experience in commercial litigation with an emphasis in real estate litigation.
Green, a graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law, began his law career as an intellectual property litigator at Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley. He moved to Lord Bissell in 2005 where he first hooked up with both Lu and Reeder. Complimenting each others’ strengthens, the partners have worked closely together as a team ever since, attaining litigation successes in a wide variety of cases.
