NEW YORK, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Light Reading (http://www.lightreading.com/), the leading online publication for the telecom industry, and Heavy Reading (http://www.heavyreading.com/), its prestigious market research division, will stage their second annual Cable Next-Gen Broadband Strategies conference, on Feb 24, 2009, at the Cable Center in Denver. Cable Next-Gen Broadband Strategies -- co-hosted by Heavy Reading Senior Analyst Alan Breznick and Cable Digital News Editor Jeff Baumgartner -- will explore the cable industry's plans to roll out far more powerful broadband technology, Docsis 3.0, develop a promising new fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) architecture, Radio Frequency Over Glass (RFOG), and adopt advanced passive optical networking (PON) technologies.
The Cable Next-Gen Broadband Strategies conference will feature keynote speaker Rouzbeh Yassini, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of YAS Broadband Ventures. Known by many as the "Father of the Cable Modem," Yassini has played an integral role in the development of cable broadband from a mere babe in the woods more than a decade ago to a mature, worldwide force today. In a lively Q&A session with Baumgartner, Yassini will share his thoughts on the early, challenging days of Docsis and explain what MSOs must do now to ensure the success of Docsis 3.0.
In addition, the Cable Next-Gen Broadband Strategies event will feature a special RFOG session with the three leaders of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) effort to draft the new FTTP standard for the cable industry. The three senior members of SCTE IPS Working Group 5 -- Mark Conner, Dean Stoneback, and Jim Farmer -- will discuss how the emerging standard will work and what the benefits will be.
Other prime speakers will include senior officials and engineers from Cox Communications, Bresnan Communications, Buckeye Cable Systems, CableLabs, and the SCTE. The full-day lineup of panels will also include speakers from Platinum Sponsors Arris, Cisco Systems, and Motorola, as well as Gold Sponsors Aurora Networks, CommScope, Hitachi Telecom USA, Salira Systems, and SMC Networks.
"This conference will be the most comprehensive look yet at where the cable industry is heading on the broadband front," Heavy Reading's Breznick says. "We expect to give audience members news they can use as they attempt to figure out their own companies' broadband strategies.
