J. Steele Alpin retired as chief administrative officer, after three decades at the bank. He is replaced by Andrea Smith, 42, as the newly retitled head of global human resources. The change is effective immediately.
GOLDMAN SACHS ASSET MANAGEMENT
The asset management arm of Goldman Sachs Group Inc said Martijn Hoogendijk and Brittne-Aspen Whitelaw have joined its Benelux distribution team as executive directors.
Hoogendijk was previously with BlackRock's distribution team in the Netherlands while Whitelaw has held senior fixed income sales positions with Morgan Stanley and ABN Amro.
MERCER
The consulting and outsourcing firm, a unit of Marsh & McLennan Cos Inc, has hired eight senior consultants to its alternatives boutique. They are Simon Fox, Robert Howie, Sanjay Mistry, Amarik Ubhi, Laura Milligan, Christopher Schelling, Shelley Elson and Jennifer Cowan.

The London and Boston-located private investment office appointed Ethan Hall as the new director of research and Sean Farrell as an investment principal.
ORRICK HERRINGTON & SUTCLIFFE
The New York-based law firm hired Brian Margolis to join its corporate practice group as a partner.
He was formerly a partner in WilmerHale's New York practice group.
FAVUS INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH
The healthcare-focused equity research firm hired Brian Kennedy as a senior equity analyst.
Kennedy will focus his coverage on companies in the medical device and diagnostic sectors.
He previously worked at Jeffries & Co, Wachovia Securities and Sturza's Medial Research.
HAYWOOD SECURITIES INC
The Toronto-based investment dealer appointed Michael McGuin to its Institutional Sales and Trading Group.
McGuin will focus on sales in the mining and oil/gas sectors. He was previously at Blackmont Capital.
PKF NORTH AMERICA
Eddie Goldsberry will serve at the accounting membership association's 2010 chair for international business development.
