Michael G. Rubin, founder and CEO of GSI Commerce Inc. (Nasdaq: GSIC), the leading provider of e-commerce technology and services to the nation's top 500 online retailers, goes undercover at his own company, one of the biggest behind-the-scenes players in online retail, on the hit series "Undercover Boss," Sunday, March 21 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
During the episode, viewers will follow Rubin as he slips anonymously into several different locations within his company, where he will perform an assortment of frontline activities, including assembling customer orders, loading trucks and answering customer calls during the busiest online shopping time of the year.
Rubin started GSI in 1999 but has been a CEO his entire career. At age 12, he launched his first business in the basement of his family's home. Today, at the age of 37, he is the leader of a fast-growing Internet company. This global organization employs more than 4,500 people, rising to over 10,000 employees during the holiday shopping season. GSI recorded revenues of more than $1.0 billion in 2009.
"GSI provides the technology, order fulfillment, customer care, marketing services and all of the intricate processes that make online shopping possible, and as the company's founder I know the business inside and out. However, as the company has grown larger, I have missed the opportunity to be close to the day-to-day activities that are at the center of what we do and what enables us to deliver value to our clients and consumers," said Michael G. Rubin, founder and CEO of GSI. "Undercover Boss allowed me to better connect with the thousands of associates that make our company so successful. Itwas truly an amazing experience that I took to heart."
GSI is the only Pennsylvania-based company to be featured in the "Undercover Boss" series during its inaugural season. In addition to filming at GSI's corporate headquarters in the suburbs of Philadelphia, portions of the episode were shot at the company's customer contact center in Melbourne, Fla., and at its fulfillment facilities located near Louisville and Richwood, Ky.
