Expands Disability Insurance Solutions for Employers in Hawaii
The Employee Benefits Group division of Sun Life Financial Inc. (NYSE: SLF, TSX: SLF) today announced that it has begun offering state-mandated disability insurance in Hawaii. Called temporary disability insurance (or TDI), this protection issued by Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, provides disability or sick leave benefits to workers unable to work because of an off-the-job sickness or injury.
Employers must offer TDI if they have two or more qualifying employees in Hawaii. Sun Life's expansion into TDI gives these employers access to Sun Life's long-time expertise as a disability benefits provider.
"As an authorized TDI carrier in Hawaii, Sun Life now provides a complete range of disability solutions for companies across the country," said Alexandra Dumont, Director, Product Management, Group Life and Disability Products. "From employer-paid and voluntary disability insurance, FMLA services, advice-to-pay services, and state-mandated insurance, we have flexible disability solutions that fit our customers' needs," continued Pray. When employers purchase disability insurance from Sun Life in addition to TDI insurance, workers can benefit from integrated customer service for the length of their disability.
