Southlake residents can now watch their city government's meetings live as they happen or at their leisure on the city's website, www.cityofsouthlake.com.
The online web-streaming service is part of a continually evolving Southlake strategy to increase public awareness and open discourse with government and its citizens. The service is provided by Plano, Texas, based Swagit Productions, LLC. Swagit serves more than 125 governing bodies throughout the United States and Canada.
The solution allows citizens the ability to access and keyword search agenda items from a centralized database of city meetings, including Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council and Southlake Program for the Involvement of Neighborhoods (SPIN). Residents can watch the entirety of the meeting or use the agenda index points to jump through meetings and watch specific items at their convenience.

Although Southlake meetings have been broadcast on the local cable system for quite some time, video streaming of both live and archived meetings has not been available until now. "All Southlake residents, including those who don't subscribe to cable, will now benefit from being able to access council and other public meeting recordings, 24 hours a day, seven days a week," said Ben Thatcher, Southlake Assistant City Manager. "The new service through Swagit provides our residents with more transparency and requires no additional responsibility or resources from city staff."
