The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.
As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following matters. Hearing and Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases.
Claude Hyman Armstrong, of the City of Mississauga (Paralegal Applicant)
Decision: The candidate will be allowed to continue practising under the terms of Mr. Ruby's order until the decision of this Panel is released.
Tatiana Brik, of the City of Thornhill, a paralegal applicant
Decision: The application for a Class P1 licence is refused.
Frederic Laurence Buckland (1981), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for four months, starting at the conclusion of the suspensions ordered on October 12, 2007, and continuing indefinitely until specified terms are met.
Christopher Gordon Cox (1980), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for two months, starting on the day that the previously ordered suspension concludes, and continuing indefinitely until specified terms are met.
Tracey Marie Foster (Resetar) (1992), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The June 20, 2007 in camera order made in File No. CP05/06 is varied.
Joan Marie Guerin (1977), of the City of Peterborough
Decision: The proceeding is converted to an invitation to attend. The invitation to attend having taken place, the Application is dismissed.
Brian John Raymond Hall (1995), of the City of Oshawa
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for 28 days starting June 23, 2010.
Edmund Manna Atta Kwaw (1996), of the City of Oshawa
Decision: Effective immediately, the lawyer's licence is revoked, he is disbarred as a barrister, and his name struck off the Roll of solicitors.
Alan Joel Luftspring (1974), of the Town of Richmond Hill
Decision: The Lawyer is permitted to surrender his licence within thirty days, failing which his licence is revoked.
Omer Malonga (2004) d'Ottawa
Decision : L'avocat est reprimande sans suspension. Le Barreau peut exiger une inspection de sa pratique dans les 24 prochains mois.
Massimiliano Pecoraro (1998), of the City of Toronto.
Decision: The hearing is adjourned to September 22, 2010 and starting immediately, the licence of the lawyer is suspended on an interlocutory basis.
Stuart Elliot Rosenthal (1985), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer shall be subject to an interim suspension as a condition of the adjournment with specified exemptions and terms.
Sudeesh Shivarattan (1991), of the City of Toronto
Decision: Effective immediately, the Lawyer's licence is revoked, he is disbarred as a barrister, and his name is struck off the Roll of solicitors.
Abram Morris Szpirglas (1975), of the City of Hamilton
Decision: The Lawyer shall be suspended for one month starting 6 p.m. October 15, 2010.
John Charles West of the City of Windsor (Paralegal Applicant)
Decision: The Appeal Panel extended the Order of April 30, 2010 staying the decision of the Hearing Panel until August 6, 2010 with specified conditions.
