Hardware, Software and Services Will Enhance Communications Operations At 70 Active-Duty Locations Worldwide
Telos® Corporation has received a $13 million order from the Air Force to deliver a web proxy server replacement as well as certify and accredit an advanced software version for the Combat Information Transport System (CITS) program. The network management initiative will replace aging equipment and improve security, and includes hardware, software, training, and certification and accreditation (C&A) services.
This contract was awarded through the Network Centric Solutions (NETCENTS) contract vehicle.
"Secure access to the internet is crucial to Air Force mission performance," said Ronnie Carter, Cyber/Integration Division chief at the Electronic Systems Center. "Detection and prevention of network attacks is a high priority for the Air Force."
At each base, the network boundary includes a web proxy, which ensures authentication and validation of web site URLs and IP addresses. The proxy denies access to black-list sites which spread viruses or other malicious programs.
"The proxy operates quietly in the background – protecting and defending the Air Force network at each base boundary. The web proxy can prevent users from accessing malicious websites, which could commit identity theft. Those websites can also target high-ranking users and steal their electronic access to sensitive information," said 2nd Lt. Richard Barnard, web proxy modernization program manager.
The Air Force's CITS program is a multi-year initiative to provide a high speed, broadband, digital information transport system. This system must integrate existing data systems and provide the capability to integrate all existing and planned voice, video, imagery and sensor systems, including classified systems.
"The NETCENTS vehicle has been one of our strongest channels," said Jim Morehouse, vice president of Strategic Programs for Telos. "Based on our long history working with the Air Force, we understand the service's requirements and its evolving needs. Web proxy is another example of how Telos can provide solutions that will meet its needs both now and in the future."
Telos serves as a prime contractor on the five-year, $9 billion Network Centric Solutions NETCENTS contract vehicle. NETCENTS is an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract that provides the Air Force, the Department of Defense and other federal agencies with a single vehicle through which to buy network-centric information technologies, networking equipment, and services, as well as voice, video and data communications hardware and software and telephony solutions from preferred contractors. NETCENTS provides a proven competitive edge for the federal government by reducing the time-to-market for critical networking and communications equipment and services.
