High Point Regional Health System Saves Millions of Dollars
nlyte Software, the only provider of performance-based solutions for Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), today announced that Consonus Technologies, a leading national provider of Data Center Services, IT Consulting, IT Infrastructure, and Managed Services, has successfully utilized the nlyte DCIM suite in a recent data center relocation project with High Point Regional Health System (HPRHS).
Bruce Cardos, senior project manager at Consonus Technologies, oversaw the relocation. Previously, like many other data center relocation project managers, Cardos had only done relocation planning using manual tools — endless spreadsheets, Visio diagrams and Word documents — a hodgepodge of applications that could neither ensure the accuracy of the data, nor efficiently help him keep track of important utilization metrics for the consumption of power, cooling and space.
Using nlyte, Cardos and his team were able to quickly model the new data center at a very granular level to determine the location of each individual asset, the power it would draw and the heat it would generate. This data-driven visual floor plan made a powerful impression on HPRHS who could now be confident in the optimum position to place each asset both now and in the future.
"Using nlyte's data driven, virtual model of HPRHS's new data center, I could prove that they were only going to be utilizing 60% of their cooling capacity," said Cardos. "This insight prevented them from unnecessarily investing several million dollars to increase the cooling capacity in the data center – an initiative that would have both driven up costs and delayed the completion of the data center project by several months."
Cardos went on to say, "The simplified and accurate documentation of data center assets and its ease of use make nlyte an excellent solution for data center relocation and enabled us to reduce the planning cycle time by 40-45% compared to previous projects. On completion of the relocation project, nlyte will then provide an excellent way for HPRHS to manage their data centers on-going daily workflow operations and to predict their capacity requirements into the future."
"Data center relocation and consolidation projects are not for the faint of heart; they can be lengthy, complex, and extremely costly," said Jon Temple, President and CEO of nlyte Software. "Historically such projects have often been managed by a collection of fragmented legacy technologies largely centered on an array of endless spreadsheets – but in the modern era, attempting to manage a major initiative like this using old management tools is like trying to perform open heart surgery with a bread knife. Today, armed with a DCIM solution, people can plan and execute their data center relocation and consolidation projects faster, more accurately and with considerable less expense."
