PRINCETON, NJ -- (Marketwire) -- 03/18/11 -- In advance of this week's Tour de Taiwan, Chinese Taipei Cycling Association (CTCA) selected the TOEIC® test, developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS), to recruit event volunteers. This international event brings thousands of visitors to the area, and the CTCA selected the TOEIC test to ensure smooth communication with participants, officials and spectators.
"2011 Tour de Taiwan is the most representative cycling activity in Taiwan, and this year we are expecting more than 20 teams and hundreds of athletes from five continents to participate in this event," said Lee Kai-Chih, Chief Secretary of the Chinese Taipei Cycling Association. "The TOEIC test was chosen to assess the language proficiency of volunteers because it identified those candidates with good international communication skills who will contribute to the success of this international event. We hope the athletes, media and guests from all over the world will be well received."
CTCA received more than 300 applications for 190 volunteer positions at this year's Tour de Taiwan and all applicants were required to submit a valid TOEIC score to help the organization effectively screen candidates. Working with ETS Country Master Distributor in Taiwan, Chun Shin Limited, CTCA set the appropriate score standard for each volunteer position based on the language proficiency needed.

With more than six million TOEIC tests administered globally in 2010, the TOEIC test is the largest and most widely used English-language assessment for the workplace. The TOEIC Test is used by more than 10,000 organizations -- including China Airlines Taiwan, Garmin Taiwan, Pfizer Taiwan and the Chinese Taipei Skating Union -- in 120 countries.
