Even if outcomes do not favor overall U.S. interests
New Poll to be Released Today in Advance of the Eighth Annual U.S.-Islamic World Forum on April 12-14 in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, April 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released today by The Brookings Institution:
WHAT: On the eve of the Eighth Annual U.S.-Islamic World Forum in Washington, D.C., Brookings' Saban Center for Middle East Policy will host Shibley Telhami as he releases new poll results on American attitudes toward the Arab and Islamic worlds. The poll, sponsored by the Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA), reveals a majority of Americans support the recent Arab uprisings even if the resulting political landscape does not favor U.S. interests. Telhami found broad American sympathy for the Arab citizens behind the uprising in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and other Arab nations. Telhami, the poll's primary researcher, is the Sadat Professor for Peace and Development at the University of Maryland and a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Saban Center at Brookings.
The poll results, which come at a pivotal moment in U.S.-Muslim relations, are being released as part of the Eighth Annual U.S.-Islamic World Forum (April 12-14). The Forum is a unique international gathering of U.S. and Muslim world officials, policymakers, business executives, journalists, and religious leaders.
More information on the Forum is available online at www.usislamicworldforum.org. Webcasting of all open sessions can be found at: www.livestream.com/usislamicforum.
