Burson-Marsteller, a leading global public relations and communications firm, today announced that Daisy King, the longstanding Market Leader of the firm's Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu offices, has transferred to New York. King will lead a new China-focused specialty group as a Managing Director in the firm's U.S. Corporate Practice, reporting to Practice Chair Jason Schechter.

"We look forward to tapping into Daisy's years of experience in the critical Chinese marketplace for our clients and staff," said U.S. President and CEO Patrick Ford. "We are committed to sharing knowledge and resources with our global colleagues. This kind of senior-level transfer is perhaps the best way to ensure such sharing has the greatest impact on our firm."
In her new role, King, an 11-year veteran of Burson-Marsteller, will lead a group in the U.S. Corporate Practice focused on counseling both U.S. clients with business communications needs in China, as well as Chinese firms operating within the U.S. market. She will collaborate closely with colleagues who currently serve many Chinese-headquartered companies with current or future plans to expand globally.
"Talent transfers have played an important role in the development of corporate communications in Asia," said Asia-Pacific President and CEO Bob Pickard. "Now, with one of our most accomplished Asian leaders working at the firm's global headquarters right at the heart of the U.S. business, we have an unprecedented capability to help our growing community of Asian multinational clients tell their stories internationally as never before."
King joined Burson-Marsteller as an Associate in 2000 rising to become Market Leader in seven years. She has been consistently one of the firm's top performers and is recognized by multinational clients as a valuable China expert and by Chinese companies as a trusted international communication professional.
"The demands on U.S. and Chinese companies to understand each other's markets, cultures, and regulatory and business environments is growing exponentially each day," said Schechter. "Developing a U.S.-based China specialty, with Burson-Marsteller China veteran Daisy King at the helm, will allow us to provide even greater breadth and depth of counsel to U.S. companies interested in breaking down barriers to China, as well as to the growing list of Asia-headquartered companies that are building an image and communicating a story for the first time in America."
King added: "Our business with companies headquartered in China and Asia is increasingly global in scope. This makes it essential that we are able to assemble the full range of cross-cultural communications expertise and international perspective to support clients in every market where they operate. I am excited by the opportunity to help lead this."
Under King's leadership, Burson-Marsteller's Shanghai business has grown rapidly and was one of the region's top performing offices in 2010.
Managing Director Brian Cronkhite of Burson-Marsteller Shanghai has taken on the Acting Market Leader role in that office. Recently, Christina Wu was appointed Market Leader for Guangzhou and Chengdu. Both Cronkhite and Wu report to Burson-Marsteller China CEO Chris Deri.
