PLANTATION, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 10/17/11 -- According to the National Retail Federation, Americans will spend nearly $2 billion on candy this Halloween.
Amid the costume shopping and pending candy spree this October, DentalPlans.com announces the launch of several social media efforts to help parents with their little trick-or-treaters' dental health.
"With all the potential for candy-eating cavities during Halloween, this month can be a scary time for our children's teeth," said Kristin Reineke, VP of Marketing for DentalPlans.com.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 19 percent of children ages 2 through 19 have untreated cavities. In addition, a 2010 report from Pew Center on the States found that one out of every five children under the age of 18 goes without dental care every year.
"October is also host to a lesser-known observance -- National Dental Hygiene Month -- a perfect time for parents to remind their children about the importance of good dental health and make dental care fun," said Reineke.
