The UCLA School of Nursing is pleased to announce that Laura Perry, director of communications, has been named a 2011 Nursing Media Award winner bythe Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). The Media Awards recognize and salute communicators, information specialists, photo journalists and creative individuals and groups who have pursued excellence in communicating nursing's rich and diverse stories and in sharing nursing's knowledge with the nursing community or general public.
"Ms. Perry's commitment to nursing curricula and her creative approach to improving the quality and safety of patient care are admirable," said STTI President Karen H. Morin, DSN, RN, ANEF.
"Laura's vision and expertise in promoting the rich depth and range of nursing has been a tremendous benefit to the UCLA School of Nursing – and to the nursing industry itself – as we work to reimagine and redefine nursing for the 21st century," said Courtney Lyder, dean of the UCLA School of Nursing. "Her creative and thoughtful work is helping to communicate and illuminate this transformation and to raise awareness of the value of nursing to society."
Perry is an award-winning public relations executive and has been working in healthcare public relations for over 20 years. She joined the UCLA School of Nursing in a newly created role in 2009. She is also past president of the PRSA Health Academy.
Perry will receive the award at the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) 41st Biennial Convention in Grapevine, Texas, October 29 – November 2.
