Peggy Cooper Cafritz To Be Honored, Artworks To Be Auctioned by Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. at First Annual Art for Humanity Event March 29

WASHINGTON, March 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being announced by Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C.

WHAT:

Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. (DC Habitat) will host its first annual Art for Humanity Auction and Cocktail Reception on March 29, 2012. This event is being held to raise funds in support of DC Habitat's mission to build and rehab affordable housing solutions in our nation's capital. Peggy Cooper Cafritz will be honored with an award for her work as an advocate for the arts and education in Washington, D.C.

More than 40 prominent artists from the local, national and international communities have donated artworks to the event, including William Wegman, Frederico Uribe, Terence Koh, Do-Ho Suh, Hank Willis Thomas and many more. Music will be performed by The Washington Jazz Arts Institute Ensemble.

Funds raised will support DC Habitat's current construction of more than 20 new and rehabilitated homes in the Ivy City community of Northeast Washington, including six highly efficient, super-insulated passive houses. The event is sponsored by artnet auctions, City First Bank of DC, the DC Habitat Ambassadors, Sparking Design, US Airways and Zavos Architecture & Design.
