More Than 25 Percent of the Nation's Top Universities are First to Adopt Open Source Mobile Development Platform
Modo Labs™, a leading provider of open source content delivery solutions for mobile platforms and devices, today announced the first anniversary of its Kurogo™ Mobile Platform. Since its introduction just one year ago, Kurogo has become the mobile technology platform for nearly 200 universities, including more than a quarter of the top 15 schools, based on U.S. News & World Report's 2012 ranking.
Kurogo's unprecedented, rapid rise to popularity includes adoption at some of the most respected universities. Harvard University, the University of British Columbia, Villanova University, Boston College and Georgetown University are just a few of the top schools that rely on Kurogo Mobile Optimized Middleware™ for seamless content delivery to smartphones and tablets. Available for download, Kurogo is an open source project based on the highly regarded MIT Mobile Framework and is used to develop content-rich mobile websites and native iOS applications.
"Kurogo by itself creates the right output for the right device and is very easy to work with," said Thomas Sammer, research associate at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. "Integrating with data sources is straightforward and Kurogo is a great standard for mobile. Since the platform is open source, I can easily collaborate with other developers at leading universities around the world and keep the university on the cutting edge of mobile technology."
"Kurogo's advantage as an open source solution is that it will give our students, faculty and staff greater flexibility when creating apps," said Jeanne Casares, assistant vice president and chief information officer at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). "Kurogo's ability to deliver everything from mobile web modules to native applications allows RIT to control not only the content, but also the development effort. Modo Labs worked closely with RIT from the proof-of-concept stage through the successful deployment of our customized solutions."
Kurogo provides a sophisticated platform and pre-built modules with a robust back-end for universities to get up-and-running quickly. Kurogo's Mobile Campus helps schools easily build mobile websites and apps for prospective students, current students, faculty, staff and alumni to receive instant access to all the information they need. Since Kurogo is an open source solution, it provides a path for university mobile websites to continually grow and expand.
"Kurogo's rapid adoption at the country's most heralded universities is a strong validation of the platform and our business model," said Andrew Yu, chief executive officer of Modo Labs. "In the first year alone, Kurogo has helped universities and enterprises accelerate development cycles and provide users with world-class mobile apps and websites. We look forward to exceeding everyone's expectations again in our second year and beyond."
