The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.
As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following matters. Hearing and Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases.
Ali Amiri (2010) of the Town of Oakville
Decision: The Paralegal was ordered to not provide legal services connected in any way with super summary offences, including the Correador and Dookie prosecutions, and any motions, applications or appeals relating to those proceedings.
Meera Bharadwaj (1999) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The appeal was dismissed and the Appellant was permitted to surrender her licence by order dated February 22, 2012. The Appellant shall pay the Law Society's costs of $10,000.
Sebastiano Cammisuli (2008) of the City of Mississauga
Decision: The Paralegal's licence was revoked.
Junior Osas Ebagua (2009) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Paralegal's licence to provide legal services was suspended on an interlocutory basis until the penalty phase of the hearing is concluded.
Tuleep Viresh Fernando (1994) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for three months commencing on June 30, 2012 and fined $2,500.
Tadesse Gebremariam (2008) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Paralegal was suspended for one month commencing on July 13, 2012 and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
Neal Michael Guttman (1986) of the City of Windsor
Decision: The Lawyer was reprimanded.
William Charles Hoskinson (1972) of the City of Waterloo
Decision: The lawyer was suspended for three months, commencing August 1, 2012 and ordered to pay costs of $12,000 to the Law Society.
Jan-Lee McKenzie Hughes (2008) of the Town of Oakville
Decision: The Paralegal was suspended for five months commencing on June 6, 2012.
Kenneth James (1969) of the City of Vaughan
Decision: The Lawyer's licence to practise law was suspended on an interlocutory basis, commencing July 4, 2012.
Terry Leon Kirichenko (1983) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for one month commencing August 1, 2012 and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
Jack Stephen Lambert (1973) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for 15 months, commencing immediately.
Donna Mason (1997) of the City of Mississauga
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for six months, commencing 30 days after the order dated June 28, 2012.
Raymond Mohamed Ghanie Motee (2002) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for 30 days, effective immediately and concurrently with his administrative suspension.
Harvey Joseph Naiman (1983) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for four months, commencing July 4, 2012.
Jonathan Bruce Payne of the Town of Huntsville
Decision: The Paralegal Applicant's application for a Class P1 licence was dismissed.
Lori Jane Prentice (2008) of the Municipality of Clarington
Decision: The Paralegal was suspended for one month commencing July 1, 2012 and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
Arif Raza (1980) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The penalty phase of the proceeding was adjourned to July 19 and 20, 2012 on condition that the Lawyer not take on any new real estate files in the interim.
John Louis Rossi (1978) of the Town of LaSalle
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for six months commencing immediately and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
Brian Allen Sherman (1977) of the City of Barrie
Decision: The conditions set out in paragraphs one and three of the Order of June 24, 1993 were discharged and the Order of Convocation of January 22, 1998 was varied.
Antal Tassy (1992) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for one month consecutive to the suspension imposed by the Order of the Hearing Panel dated March 30, 2005 and any subsequent administrative suspension.
