WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - HanesBrands Inc. (HBI), a marketer of everyday branded basic apparel, reported fourth-quarter net income of $80.39 million, compared to $40.97 million last year. Earnings per share increased to $0.80 from $0.41 prior year. Earnings per share from continuing operations was $0.78, compared to $0.39 last year.
Net sales increased to $1.15 billion from $1.10 billion in the comparable quarter last year.
On average, analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit of $1.01 per share on revenue of $1.15 billion for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
For 2013, Hanes expects earnings of $3.25 to $3.40 per share and net sales of about $4.6 billion. Analysts currently expect the company to report 2013 profit per share of $3.33 on revenue of $4.67 billion.
