Speakers:
Dr. Richard Ofshe Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of California - Berkley will speak on False Confessions. Dr. Ofshe is a member of the advisory board of the False Memory Syndrome Foundation, and is known for his expert testimony relating to coercion in small groups, confessions, and interrogations.
John Guzman, CFI is an expert on gangs and gang investigations. Mr. Guzman was a twenty-year veteran of the Chicago Police Gang Unit before joining the New Mexico Mounted Patrol. He has conducted thousands of gang interrogations, developed informants, and cleared gang cases from theft to homicide. Mr. Guzman wrote the Gang Manual for the Chicago Police Department and teaches his strategies all over the world.
Dr. Carol Chaski is Executive Director of the Institute for Linguistic Evidence. She will help us understand and answer some fundamental questions about language- based evidence and its potential application to the investigation, interview, and interrogation.
