Governor General to Stay at the Citadelle of Quebec

OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/07/13 -- Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will stay at the Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle of Quebec, from February 9 to 14, 2013.

Their Excellencies will take part in outdoor activities during the Quebec Winter Carnival. To encourage and support organizations that improve people's well-being through their activities or research, Their Excellencies will visit the Institut universitaire en sante mentale de Quebec and the Le Pavois organization. They will meet with elementary school students, who will tell Their Excellencies about their interests in art and technology. Finally, Their Excellencies will have a discussion with Quebeckers who place great importance on philanthropy, and attend a game at the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament, at which the Governor General will perform the ceremonial puck drop.

"It always gives Sharon and me great pleasure to visit the beautiful City of Quebec, especially when the Winter Carnival is underway," said his Excellency. "We will take advantage of our time in the city to meet with researchers, philanthropists, students and young athletes who, among others, will tell us about the subjects that matter to them."

Saturday, February 9

Calgary Stampede Flapjack Breakfast (Quebec Winter Carnival)
The Governor General and Mrs. Johnston will meet volunteers and then put on
aprons to help serve some of the 3 000 free flapjack breakfasts provided by
the City of Calgary delegation. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausages and
good, hot coffee.

Canoe Race Finals (Quebec Winter Carnival)
Their Excellencies, accompanied by Bonhomme, the official mascot of the
Winter Carnival, will drop the flag to start the finals of the men's elite

Visit to the Institut universitaire en sante mentale de Quebec (IUSMQ)
Their Excellencies will visit the IUSMQ, a leader in the field of mental
health that is affiliated with the Universite Laval. It provides adults with
quality, specialized care and services that focus on their recovery, social
integration and quality of life. Researchers from the institute will provide
Their Excellencies with an overview of their research, especially in
sexology and high-tech areas like neurophotonics. During this same event,
Their Excellencies will visit the Superior Court of Quebec facilities, which
are next to the institute, and the Vincent et moi gallery. For more

Visit to Le Pavois
Their Excellencies will learn more about the mental health services provided
by Le Pavois during a visit to its facilities and at a meeting with members
who are benefiting from the organization's services. After this discussion,
Their Excellencies will go snowshoeing with members of the Club Hors-Piste,
an outdoor sports activity club for people between the ages of 18 to 35 who
are recovering from a mental health problem. For more information, please

Visit to Everest Elementary School
Their Excellencies will visit the Anglophone Everest Elementary School,
where students will present-through short demonstrations and videos-their
ArtsSmarts projects. These include a dancing robot, creating a science
fiction film and designing a book on the history of the city of La Tuque.
The Governor General and Mrs. Johnston will also attend musical performances
by students in other schools from the Central Quebec School Board
participating in the ArtsSmarts program. A few hundred students from various
schools in the Quebec and Mauricie regions will attend this event.

His Excellency will receive the credentials of the new ambassador of the
Republic of Columbia and the new high commissioner for the Republic of
Malta. Credentials are the official documents by which new heads of
