SAN FRANCISCO, March 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today recognized Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) with a 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award for the utility's continued leadership in protecting our environment through superior energy efficiency. PG&E's accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony taking place tomorrow in Washington, D.C.
PG&E, an ENERGY STAR partner since 1995, will be honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency. Through its partnership with ENERGY STAR in 2012, PG&E helped customers save more than $2 billion in average lifecycle energy bills and avoid the emission of nearly 840,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors. Award winners are selected from the nearly 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
