RICHMOND, Va., April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --McGuireWoods LLP today announced that Dale G. Mullen has joined the firm's Regulatory and Compliance Department as a partner in Richmond. His practice will focus on environmental regulatory and compliance matters involving water- and waste-related issues, environmental litigation, and government issues affecting the firm's clients.
Mullen has broad experience in regulatory matters, environmental law, civil and criminal litigation, real estate and land use law, risk management, and other areas. As the former county attorney and county administrator for Louisa County, Va., he was responsible for managing a staff of more than 200 employees and a budget of $87 million. Prior to that he served as chief prosecutor and special assistant United States attorney (SAUSA) in the Office of the Virginia Attorney General, where he supervised five regional offices of attorneys general and special assistant U.S. attorneys, managed the federal and state prosecutions of non-typical organized crime cases, and developed regulatory compliance systems. In 2011 he was recognized as a "Leader in the Law" by Virginia Lawyers Weekly for his service in the public sector and as a "powerful change agent in environmental law."

Mullen also served in private practice and held several leadership positions in the Richmond Police Department, where he was deputized with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and U.S. Marshals Service. He is a Navy veteran and earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Richmond's T.C. Williams School of Law. He serves on the adjunct faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond law school, where he develops curriculum and teaches courses on trial advocacy, expert testimony, scientific evidence and constitutional law. He is past president of the Hanover County Bar Association and is active in the community, including pro bono development of tax-exempt programs for youth sports and serving as a Friends of Scouting chairman for the Boy Scouts of America.
