WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Murphy Oil Corp. (MUR) reported net income for the first quarter of $360.6 million or $1.88 per share, compared to $290.1 million or $1.49 per share for the year-ago quarter.
Income from continuing operations for the first quarter was $208.0 million or $1.08 per share, compared to $281.5 million or $1.44 per share in the prior year quarter.
Revenue for the first quarter fell to $6.64 billion from $6.96 billion in the same quarter last year.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.97 per share on revenue of $7.17 billion for the first quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Looking forward, the company forecast second quarter earnings from continuing operations of $1.50 to $1.65 per share. Analysts currently expect the company to earn $1.41 per share for the second quarter.
