"We are in a race to put into place as many essential technical and policy elements as possible to assure the ongoing transformation of health care through HIE," said Pamela (Pam) Lane, Deputy Secretary, Health Information Exchange, California Department of Health & Human Services. "Adoption of electronic health records and the ability to securely share this information among all providers is necessary for meeting the state's healthcare reform goals and to help curtail the high costs associated with a paper-based healthcare system."
According to Lane, the promise of HIE lies in its ability to help providers make informed, evidence-based decisions: "HIE puts the right information in the right hands -- when and where it is needed."
The Summit will include important news about initiatives pertaining to the statewide immunization registry, rural HIE, and a statewide initiative to enable California health systems to more easily connect with local, California HIEs. There will also be "talk-back" sessions on:
- The Reality of Meaningful Use
- Trust: An Essential Element of HIE
- Federal "PIN" requirements
- Aligning HIT and HIE Transformation Efforts
