OAKLAND, CA--(Marketwired - May 22, 2013) - The Jewish Federation | The Jewish Community Foundation of the East Bay (www.jfed.org) has opened an emergency fund to gather aid for the victims of the devastating tornado that ripped through the Oklahoma City area Monday, leaving at least 24 people dead and a community in need of vital services.
"The Jewish Federation system is positioned to respond quickly to emergencies and we've seen that demonstrated by the community since we launched the fund yesterday. We are in communication with the Jewish Federation of Greater Oklahoma City, whose staff and constituents were directly affected by the tornado. Our hearts go out to families and loved ones of the victims of this terrible disaster and we are calling on our community to do everything we can to help them," said East Bay Federation and Foundation CEO Rabbi James Brandt.
The local Federation in Oklahoma City is coordinating ground efforts with emergency relief partners, including a local food bank, Habitat for Humanity and the Red Cross.
