NEW YORK, June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Thousands of families continue to be displaced as a result of Hurricane Sandy. In an effort to welcome some of those families home, High Socks for Hope, a charity run by Yankees pitcher David Robertson and his wife, Erin, and NBTY Helping Hands, the charitable arm of NBTY, a leading global manufacturer and distributor of vitamins, supplements and sports nutrition, today delivered and donated furniture to families who are no longer displaced.

Volunteers from High Socks for Hope, including Yankees pitcher David Robertson, teamed up with volunteers from NBTY Helping Hands to deliver and unload a 30-foot truck filled with new furniture being donated to families in Far Rockaway, NY. In addition to the four families whose homes were furnished today, the donation is expected to provide enough capital to furnish the homes of six additional families in the hurricane-devastated area.
"Alabama and New York are the two places I consider home, so to see both of my states so affected by these natural disasters is heartbreaking," said David Robertson. "I have been fortunate enough to be given a stage as a Major League Baseball player to help raise awareness for the victims of these disasters. My wife and I created High Socks for Hope to lend support to those suffering in the wake of natural disasters, especially after the immediate attention subsides. We are thankful for the donation from NBTY Helping Hands that is helping to get some of these families back into their homes."
"As a Long Island company committed to helping people be healthy and well, it is particularly heartbreaking to see so many people in this area who still have been unable to return to normalcy, even now, seven months after the storm hit," said Mike Oliveri, Chairman of NBTY Helping Hands. "While many of us have been able to move on with our lives, many have not. We hope that this donation will help some of these families get back on their feet."
High Socks for Hope
The David and Erin Robertson Foundation, a donor advised fund with the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund, is dedicated to assisting those affected by the tornadoes in Tuscaloosa and throughout the state of Alabama. The foundation strives to lend support to charities and organizations helping those who suffered loss and were affected by this tragedy. Our neighbors in New York and New Jersey have given so much to help out Alabama. As a way to give back to the New York and New Jersey areas, High Socks for Hope has assisted those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
