VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/08/13 -- Parliamentary Secretary Randy Kamp, on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today delivered a speech at the Canadian Wildilfe Federation Annual general meeting. In his speech, he highlighted that Fisheries and Oceans Canada is preparing to launch a new Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program to support restoration of recreational fishing habitat.
Funding for the new program was announced in Economic Action Plan 2013 to support conservation activities through partnerships with local organizations who will undertake a variety of projects to restore and protect recreational fisheries habitat.
"Recreational fishing is not only a cherished pastime for millions of Canadians, but also an important economic activity which attracts thousands of visitors from around the world and contributes billions of dollars to our economy every year," said Parliamentary Secretary Kamp.
"Our government is committed to supporting the individuals and organizations who are working along the shores of lakes, rivers and streams across this country to protect and restore fishing habitats for future generations."
Parliamentary Secretary Kamp informed Canadians of this upcoming launch during an address at the Canadian Wildlife Federation's Annual General Meeting.
The Government of Canada remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security.
Additional information about the program and application forms will soon be available on the Department's website at: www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca.
