Named in loving memory of Herbert Hugh Tuchman, the late brother of long-time RWJ Hamilton board member Martin Tuchman, the pediatric emergency center project has been embraced by community members and donors alike.
With the first phase of the project complete, eight spacious treatment suites were built. The campaign has reached milestone heights for RWJ Hamilton Foundation by surpassing its halfway mark of $2.5 million.
WHY PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY CARE?
"With over 36,000 families living within a 15-minute drive of our hospital and given the statistics we track, we knew this project would meet an important need," says Skip Cimino, president and CEO.
Tuchman agreed that establishing a family-focused pediatric emergency center was important and it was his $1 million pledge that launched the campaign. "Emergency medical care is something that this hospital does extremely well. And I knew early on that it would meet a tremendous community health need. Investing in a project like this made sense to me as soon as the idea was presented," said Tuchman.
Over 12,000 children were treated in the new center in its first full year, despite its initial part-time hours of operation. Operations recently expanded from 12 to 16 hours per day.
CAN YOU HELP?
Raising the next $2.5 million will see the project to fruition. The next two phases will allow round-the-clock care in the pediatric center as opposed to the busy emergency department. It also includes a distinct pediatric ambulance entrance, dedicated family waiting room, prompt care treatment bays, and additional accoutrements designed for comfort and safety.
There is a wide array of naming opportunities available, as well as gift-making options that include outright gifts, pledges over three years and planned gifts that may include bequests or trusts.
