ANAHEIM, CA--(Marketwired - July 25, 2013) - The National Association of Women Business Owners - Orange County (NAWBO-OC), the premier organization for Orange County women business owners, today announced the names of the three outstanding business women who will be honored with the organization's Remarkable Women Awards for 2013.
The three businesswomen, who will be officially recognized at a dinner and awards ceremony on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, are:
- Beverly Bailey, president and chief executive officer of Stronghold Engineering, Inc., for Lifetime Achievement;
- Kim Shepherd, chief executive officer of Decision Toolbox, for Innovator;
- Susan Scott, president of Premiere Home Health Care, for Entrepreneur to Watch.
"These three remarkable women are the latest in a long list of exceptionally talented and accomplished businesswomen who have been so honored since our awards program began in 1996," said Laura Neubauer, NAWBO-OC president. "They were selected from nominations received from our members and were subject to a rigorous review process of their qualifications, including business success, corporate leadership and passion in their chosen fields."
"Our 2013 honorees are the heart of our signature annual event, which allows us to prominently feature women who have made significant contributions to our business community," Neubauer added. "This event lets our membership learn first-hand how these successful women dared to create their companies and establish solid and growing enterprises, all while following their dreams - and in the process becoming extraordinary examples of making an impact in Orange County."
Beverly Bailey launched Stronghold Engineering, Inc. (SEI), in October of 1991 and in the past 22 years has grown the construction company to $100 million in annual revenues with 200 employees and subcontractor relationships with about 450 companies. SEI operates in the western U.S., primarily in California, Nevada and Arizona. "I started the company when I started my family and the original goal was to pay the bills and give me time at home to raise my children," she said. "We've come a long way since then. I'm honored to receive NAWBO-OC's Lifetime Achievement award but I feel like I still have a lot of lifetime to go."
Kim Shepherd has been a major factor in the growth of Decision Toolbox to $10 million in annual revenues and a position as one of Orange County's leading recruiting firms. A businesswoman who doesn't believe in following conventional business rules, she espouses a philosophy that "there's nothing common about common sense" -- an approach that enables her to creatively deploy up to 100 employees, most of whom work remotely from the company's Irvine headquarters. Decision Toolbox, as its name implies, offers a broad range of resources to fulfill corporate recruitment needs - and it offers them for an industry-leading average of only seven percent cost per hire. "Receiving this Innovator award from NAWBO-OC is validation that my team is doing outstanding work in the recruitment field and I'm delighted to accept it on their behalf," Shepherd said.
Susan Scott built on her experience working in the health care field, including a stint at Hoag Memorial Hospital, to establish Premiere Home Health Care less than three years ago. The company provides concierge services for non-medical, in-home companion care and homemaker services to seniors, patients recovering from surgery, new and expectant mothers and other residents of Orange and Los Angeles counties. Her goal was to relieve people of much of the workload and stress of caring for family members with medical issues and to do so in a safe, secure and caring environment. The company has grown rapidly from 20 people working out of a 300 square foot office to nearly 300 people working from a 2,500 square foot office in Huntington Beach. "We're excited to receive the Entrepreneur to Watch award from NAWBO-OC," Scott said, "because this organization is so valuable to women in business in our community. It really means something coming from NAWBO-OC."
